Prof. Asanka Sanjeewa is an experienced researcher and academic with extensive expertise in marine bioresource technology. He has a strong background in marine biotechnology, natural product discovery, and bioresource utilization, with a proven track record in research, teaching, and academic leadership.
His technical expertise includes human and animal cell culture, isolation and characterization of secondary metabolites from marine organisms, molecular biology techniques, RT-qPCR analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and advanced data analysis. His research focuses on exploring bioactive compounds from marine organisms and their potential applications in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and functional materials.
Prof. Sanjeewa earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Marine Life Sciences from Jeju National University, Republic of Korea. With international research experience and a strong publication record, he continues to contribute to advancing marine biotechnology through interdisciplinary research, teaching, and scientific collaboration.

Prof. Asanka Sanjeewa’s research focuses on the exploration and utilization of marine bioresources for biotechnological and biomedical applications. His work primarily investigates bioactive compounds derived from marine organisms, particularly seaweeds and microalgae, with the aim of identifying functional molecules with potential applications in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals.
His research interests include the isolation, characterization, and biological evaluation of marine natural products, as well as the study of their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and other therapeutic properties using molecular and cell-based approaches. He is also interested in marine bioprocessing and sustainable utilization of marine biomass, integrating biochemical, molecular, and analytical techniques to develop value-added products from marine resources.
Through interdisciplinary research, he aims to advance marine biotechnology and blue bioeconomy initiatives by translating marine bioresources into innovative biotechnological solutions.
