Polymer Processing Technology is a focus area offered under Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours Degree Program to meet the extensive demand in the industry and other organizations. Sri Lanka being one of the leading rubber manufacturing countries of the world, our graduates have the privilege of joining renowned rubber and other polymer-based industries in the country as well as academia. Further, the knowledge and the skills provided by the program could extend the students venture to the overseas opportunities.
At present, the annual undergraduate intake for the Polymer Processing Technology focus area is 25 out of 161 Engineering Technology stream. Course modules offered by the program are multidisciplinary in nature, which encompasses Mathematics, Science, and Engineering fundamentals, as well as essential tools and skills for a polymer technologist. The curricula of the focus area are designed according to the Sydney Accord and to meet the standards of the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) Engineering Technology Degree Programme recognition manual. To provide hands-on experience, the practical component for polymer processing Technology graduates uses five fully equipped sophisticated laboratories namely Dry rubber Processing Laboratory, Plastic Processing Laboratory, Latex Testing laboratory, Plastics & Rubber Testing laboratory, and Materials Characterization Laboratory. Moreover, the department facilitates to carryout M.Phil and PhD projects.
