FOT-USJ holds second inauguration of Diploma In Cosmetic Technology (Batch 2024/25)

The Department of Biosystems Technology (BST) at the Faculty of Technology (FOT), University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ), offers the exclusive Diploma in Cosmetic Technology, a one-year program (SLQF 03), making it the sole government university in Sri Lanka providing such specialized education in the field of Cosmetic Technology. With an extensive curriculum comprising 26 theory credits and 03 credits of laboratory practicals, along with tutorials, individual and group presentations, industrial visits, and mini-research projects, this program is designed to furnish students with a robust understanding of cosmetic science and technology.


 


The primary objectives of this diploma course are to instill fundamental principles in cosmetic science, furnish practical experience in formulating various cosmetic products and conducting quality control analysis, and equip students with the leadership and managerial competencies necessary for venturing into or managing a cosmetic enterprise. This course caters to a diverse audience, including small and medium-scale cosmetic entrepreneurs, cosmeticians, cosmetologists, beauticians, medical practitioners, university students, and individuals aspiring for careers within the cosmetic industry.


 



The inauguration ceremony for the second batch of our Diploma in Cosmetic Technology program was a momentous occasion. It took place on the 27th of April 2024, at the Ven. Sri Soratha Auditorium, FOT, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and marked a successful program commencement. The event was graced by esteemed figures, including Prof. Nilmini Liyanage, the Dean of FOT, Heads of the Departments of FOT, Visiting Lecturers, invited Academic and Non-academic Staff members, and Diploma Program Second-Batch Candidates. Mr. Nalaka Gunawardana, General Manager of Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd, delivered the keynote speech, while Prof. Nilmini Liyanage, Prof. Lasanthi Jayathunge, Head (BST Department), and Dr. Kaushalya Abeysekera, Coordinator of the Diploma, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the program and its potential impact on the cosmetic industry landscape.
