It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you to the Flagship Technology Faculty in Sri Lanka, Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The Faculty of Technology has emerged as an important centre of technology education, innovation, research, and knowledge transfer in Sri Lanka. Since its establishment in 2016, the Faculty has made significant progress in developing technology-based higher education that responds to national priorities and the changing needs of industry and society. Our academic programmes are designed to equip graduates with sound theoretical knowledge, practical competencies, creativity, entrepreneurship, and the ability to address real-world challenges through technological solutions.

At present, the Faculty offers undergraduate programmes leading to the Bachelor of Biosystems Technology Honours (BBST Hons), Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours (BET Hons), and Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology Honours (BICT Hons), through its Departments of Biosystems Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Civil and Environmental Technology, Mechanical and Materials Technology, and Science for Technology. These programmes encompass diverse areas of modern technology and provide our students with opportunities to develop expertise in disciplines of national and global relevance.

Our greatest strength is our people. The Faculty is supported by a committed and diverse community of academic, administrative, technical, and support staff who work collectively to create an environment conducive to teaching, learning, research, innovation, and professional development. Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to providing them with a stimulating academic environment, modern learning experiences, industry exposure, and opportunities to transform their knowledge into practical solutions.

Research and innovation remain central to our vision. We seek to strengthen multidisciplinary research, industry–academia collaboration, entrepreneurship, and commercialization of research outcomes. By addressing challenges related to agriculture, food and biosystems, engineering, information and communication technology, environmental sustainability, manufacturing, and other emerging fields, we aspire to make a meaningful contribution to national development and the global knowledge economy.

The Faculty also recognizes that technology education must continuously evolve. We therefore place strong emphasis on curriculum development, emerging technologies, digital transformation, sustainability, innovation, and strong engagement with industry and other stakeholders. Building mutually beneficial partnerships with industry, government, professional organizations, universities, and international institutions is essential to ensuring that our graduates are well prepared for the rapidly changing world of work.

As we move forward, our vision is to further establish the Faculty of Technology as a leading institution for technology education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. We will continue to foster a culture of academic excellence, integrity, inclusivity, creativity, and lifelong learning while creating opportunities for our students and staff to reach their fullest potential.
