The Department of Civil and Environmental Technology successfully convened its annual Industry Consultative Committee (ICC) Meeting, fostering meaningful dialogue between industry leaders and academic staff to ensure our programs remain aligned with evolving industry needs.
Meeting Highlights
Under the chairmanship of the Dean of the Faculty of Technology, the meeting brought together senior professionals from across the civil, environmental, and energy sectors. The Head of Department outlined the meeting objectives and the department’s vision for enhanced industry collaboration, including the feasibility of establishing an Industry Hub for joint consultancy projects.
Key Outcomes and Discussions
Curriculum Enhancement – Industry experts provided valuable feedback on aligning the curriculum with current industry practices, emphasizing the need for specialized modules and strengthening practical components to meet modern industry standards.
Engineering Technologist’s Role – Discussions centered on defining and enhancing the role of Engineering Technologists in the industry, with emphasis on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and field applications.
Research and Development – The meeting explored opportunities for collaborative research in emerging technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative materials relevant to civil and environmental technology.
Industrial Training – Industry partners stressed the critical importance of hands-on experience in contemporary industry practices, practical training, and exposure to current industry standards and codes.
