“Tasty Food Fiesta 2018” for World Food Day Celebration organized by the Food Technology
Club, Faculty of Technology (FOT), University of Sri Jayewardenepura was held on 16 th of
October 2018 at the FOT premises.
Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Acting Dean, FOT, University of Sri Jayewardenepura graced
the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. S.B Navarathne (Professor, Department of Food Science
and Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura), all Heads of
the Departments of FOT, other academic members and students witnessed and made this event a
The initial session of the event was dedicated to a speech by the Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage
(Dean, Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura) thereafter, Prof. S. B.
Navarathne, delivered a speech emphasizing on the role of a Food Technologist to address local
and global issues and gaps in Food Technology.
The initial session was concluded by delivering the vote of thanks by Dr. Lanka Undugoda
(Senior Lecturer, Department of Biosystems Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of
“Tasty Food Fiesta 2018” was then opened for the public with twelve innovative food products
which were presented by the students of the Food Technology Club including “Habala pethi rice
flakes”, “Kohila Chips”, “Mango fruit leather” etc. The specialty of this event comprised of
manufacturing food products using highly nutritious and underutilized food ingredients.
